LONDON, GBR, Mar 30, 2023: OpSec Security, the global leader in physical and digital anti-counterfeiting and brand protection solutions, is delighted to announce the launch of a digital tax stamp program in partnership with the Régie Libanaise des Tabacs et Tombacs (Régie Libanaise) and technology partner SCOPSIS. The program is an important step toward protecting Lebanon’s revenues and fighting the illicit trade in tobacco.

The program launch was celebrated during an event attended by Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Minister of Finance Dr. Youssef Al-Khalil, Minister of Industrial Affairs George Boushikian, representatives of the British Embassy, and representatives of the Lebanese business community. During this prestigious launch event, OpSec’s cutting-edge solution for product authentication and traceability throughout the supply chain was demonstrated.

“I am delighted that OpSec’s Insight platform will provide traceability and secure product marking to help the Régie Libanaise secure and enhance their tax revenues,” said Peter Waker, Senior Vice President and General Manager of OpSec Authentication. “Combined with our highly secure authentication stamps, this comprehensive solution will combat the trade in illicit tobacco within the region.”

Régie Libanaise is the state-owned public organization controlled by the Lebanese Ministry of Finance and mandated to manage tobacco plantations, as well as the manufacture and transport of all tobacco products sold within the country. The current level of illicit trade in cigarettes within Lebanon is estimated to be around 25% of the total market, costing the government between $200-$250 million in annual lost revenues.

“This is a milestone achievement for SCOPSIS and we are thrilled to be a part of this historic program,” said Mohamad Ali Ahmad, SCOPSIS VP – Governmental Solutions. “We believe that this partnership will help improve the Regie’s production processes, increase its revenues, and create more job opportunities for the Lebanese people.”
