In the rolling green hills of a 1925 golf championship, a vision was born. The winner of that year’s tournament, later the founder of FERO, dreamed of revolutionizing golf. He envisioned equipment that would not just serve but elevate the game. This dream led to the birth of FERO, a brand synonymous with innovation and quality in golfing equipment. From high-performance clubs to precision-engineered balls and stylish accessories, FERO became the go-to for golfers seeking excellence. Today, FERO stands as a premium heritage brand, beloved by professional and amateur golfers alike for their high-quality golfing equipment and innovative apparel.
The threat of imitation
“But as we climbed the ladder of success, shadows grew beneath us,” reflected Chloe Turner, CEO at FERO. The rise of fake products from overseas cast a dark shadow over FERO’s market position and brand integrity. Inferior products flooded the market, with vast counterfeit activity coming from China, threatening the trust that FERO had built up over nearly a century. “Every fake club or ball not only deceives a customer but also erodes the soul of our brand,” Turner added, emphasizing the $6 billion annual loss the industry faces due to counterfeits. With their premium product range and distinctive character, FERO was a prime target.
Determined to protect their legacy, FERO sought a solution that would authenticate their premium products without compromising their on-the-shelf appeal. As such, it is easily recognized by consumers and brand inspectors alike. FERO was also interested in a secondary authentication tool to enable verification of optical features using a smartphone. Ultimately, the brand opted for a bold visual overt effect that protected the secure UID using OpSec Keycode. This provides rapid, reliable verification, and extra assurance that a product is authentic. “It feels like we are stamping trust onto every product,” Vishrani noted.
