“Responsibility for the cleanroom UV replication Facilities at our High Tech, Grove Park facility”

This role is for a UV Replication Engineer at OpSec’s Design, Origination and R&D Laboratories at Grove Park Leicester.
The role is to operate the various UV microstructure replication systems that are used to replicate holographic optical images for the pre-production processing of our optical security devices for anti-counterfeiting. We are looking for someone to develop the required skill set by training with our current team and then to gradually take responsibility for operation of the laboratory going forward. The role is intended to develop into a facilities management role with a small team that will be implemented over the next year at Grove Park.
The systems are site in our UV replication cleanroom facility. Here we operate UV cast cure replication technologies to accurately copy the micro and nano structures that make up the devices we produce. The techniques are complex, and training will be given, but the applicant should have a strong work ethic, a dedicated approach with meticulous attention to detail, whilst be able to operate in a commercial environment with define deadlines and expectations. The bulk of the replication work will be conducted in yellow light cleanroom conditions so previous experience of cleanroom operating procedures is essential along with knowledge of various characterization methods typically used for analysis of micro structured devices.
The Role
- Carry out UV replication tasks accurately and following strict methodologies using various OpSec facilities in an ISO class 7 (class 10,000) yellow light cleanroom environment.
- Develop manual skills in the production of optical security devices and operate automated replication machinery and inspection systems.
- Take responsibility for the quality and output of the facility
- Learn to trouble shoot and take remedial action to adapt to varying microstructure types and behaviours.
Liaise with the wider laboratory and design and origination team. - Build and maintain communications with the wider factory sites, UK and US, including site visits when required.
- Develop visual inspection techniques unique to these products.
- Perform inspection and critical analysis of work at all stages and report status.
- Document and log data and images associated with inspection.
- Record and interpret results and be able to present to senior colleagues.
- Take responsibility for working safely in the cleanrooms including ensuring compliance to UV and other laboratory standards, following strict safety procedures and safety checks.
- Keep equipment and environment in a clean and serviceable condition.
- Work within the laboratories and support keeping the laboratory well-maintained, clean, and stocked.
- Learn and develop abilities in other support processes including electroforming, vacuum coating, inspection and device fabrication and application methods.
- Be familiar with using computer-based packages for data management, reporting and general laboratory work and have general computer skills.
- Participate in a continuous improvement culture, keep up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve quality and reliability.
- Manage a long-term process improvement program to ensure future quality and commercial advantage
- Ultimately develop a small team skilled in the art.
- We are looking for:
Essential:
Should hold suitable science qualifications (A levels or above), or 5 years+ experience within a comparable workplace environment.
- You’ll usually work in a cleanroom yellow light environment where you’ll have to wear clean room clothing for extended times.
- You will be expected to work to deadlines for commercial applications and may get involved with preparation of samples and demonstrations of abilities to key clients.
- The ability to learn specific, practical techniques and apply this knowledge to produce high quality work and be able to solve technical problems.
- Good coordination and attention to detail, to use technical equipment with accuracy.
- The ability to maintain and calibrate technical equipment.
- Time management skills to work on several different projects at once.
- Flexibility to work with and provide support for several people.
- Excellent oral communication skills to work effectively with colleagues from all parts of the organization and to explain complex techniques to interested parties.
