Position Summary & Objective

To produce masters and production shims for manufacturing of holographic products through an electroforming process. The process involves replication of a holographic image by electro-deposition from an original made of glass, plastic, or nickel.
Essential Functions Performed by the Position
– A general understanding of the electroforming process, and chemicals involved is imperative for successful operation.
– Basic laboratory safety and cleanliness is required and must be always practiced.
– Maintaining baths components, ie. Electrolyte, Anodes, Cathodes, baskets, power supplies, heaters, pumps, filters, holding devises, and timing devises. Assist in rebuilds and/or upgrades as needed.
– Technician will perform analytical testing required for maintaining the electrolyte solutions balance, i.e., pH, titration, and wetting agents. Distilled water is added daily to compensate for evaporation.
– Views Sales Orders to determine number of shims necessary for each job. Makes shim folders available for production personnel.
– Receives, co-inspects, and prepares originations for electroforming. This may involve silver spraying glass and plastics for conductivity.
– Prepares masters for plating by following a series of steps, which include visual inspection, cleaning, rinsing, and passivation. Mounts the master on a holder and immerses into plating baths. Sets timer and rectifier and adjusts flow and may readjust current throughout plating process. General observation of the operation of baths may detect potential problems.
– Removes shim work from tanks at defined intervals to achieve proper thicknesses. Shims are separated from master, and process is repeated. Inspects shims visually for flaws and determines that the thickness is correct. In some instances, grinding may be necessary to separate the work pieces.
– Inspects finished shims visually for any flaws and determines that the thickness is correct.
– Technician is responsible for proper handling and storage of shim work. Careful handling is imperative which includes proper drying and protecting shims from accidental scratching. A low-tack protective film is used to protect masters
– Maintaining sufficient inventory of all chemicals, safety accessories, and spare part for tanks.
– Maintaining water filtration system and waste evaporation system.
– Performing preventative maintenance, such as periodic cleaning of tanks, changing nickel, changing filters and bags. Leaches all tank components prior to tank installation.
– Properly destroying shims that do not pass quality inspection to maintain product security.
– Labels all masters and shims for identification.
– Records daily production and maintains tank maintenance, and analytical testing records. Interprets analytical testing records to ensure proper balance and operation of plating baths.
– Keeps work area neat and clean, properly storing tooling, shims, and chemicals.
– Assumes such other tasks and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Shift Supervisor and/or Plant Manager.
– Responsible for conducting themselves in a professional manner.
– Strive for quality and efficiency in all work practices.
– Conscientious work practices should be routine for ensuring personal safety as well as the safety of others.
– Guidelines for building security must be followed including proper handling of Security product and disposition of waste.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
– A general understanding of the electroforming process, and chemicals involved is imperative for successful operation.
– Efficient, Detail Oriented and Conscientious
– Basic to high level of technical, mechanical, math ability and computer skills.
Required Education and Experience
– High School Diploma or GED required. One to three years’ experience preferred to perform job responsibilities.
– To ensure efficiency and safety, electroplating calls for good manipulative skills such as arm-hand steadiness, manual dexterity, and multi-limb coordination.
– Experience in visual inspection a plus
– Able to operator independently and as part of a team.
