Countering NFT Infringement
Detecting and enforcing against unauthorized non-fungible tokens (NFTs)
Brands are embracing non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to engage consumers and drive new value from their digital content and brand properties. But in these formative stages for NFTs, new sources of value are bringing new vulnerabilities, with many brands falling victim to unauthorized NFTs that infringe their intellectual property.
This represents a direct theft of brand assets, stretching the resources of internal IP protection and legal teams in countering this threat. It also risks undermining consumer confidence in launches of genuine NFTs by brand owners themselves.
But as in other areas of online infringement, OpSec offers an effective response to new NFT threats. It has extended its market-leading online coverage to leading NFT marketplaces and platforms, including OpenSea and Rarible. OpSec analysts, backed by enterprise class online threat intelligence tools, detect and takedown infringing NFTs on behalf of brands and in-house legal teams. This new service is already in live operation, tackling infringements on multiple NFT marketplaces.
The OpSec Approach
It starts with a problem-centric review of a broad range of NFT marketplaces and platforms to find hotspots of infringing activity. This determines primary coverage (platforms with infringements) and secondary coverage (emerging NFT platforms) for each customer. Primary platforms are monitored on an agreed frequency, with an additional review of secondary platforms to establish the monitoring pattern. Secondary platforms are reviewed ongoing to prioritize coverage by customer.
The OpSec Difference
In common with other OpSec Cyber Services, its NFT Infringement Takedown is designed and engineered for brands that require an enterprise scale monitoring solution with highly responsive support. As new NFT marketplaces emerge, OpSec will continue to extend its coverage to suppress the emergence of new threats.
